Hän on opiskellut Suomen historiaa Oulun yliopistossa (FM) ja on tutkinut laajasti viime sotien sotakoirien historiaa mm. opinnäytetyössään. <br /> <br /> Luovaa kirjoittamista Heikkinen opiskeli Jyväskylän yliopiston avoimessa yliopistossa, mikä innoitti hänet kirjoittamaan kaunokirjallisen teoksen sotakyyhkyistä. Esikoisromaaninsa aiheen hän löysi tutkiessaan sota-arkistosta sotakoirien historiaa.<br /> <br /> ==Viestikyyhkyupseeri==<br /> <br /> Suomen puolustusvoimien kyyhkysten kasvattaja, hoitaja ja kouluttaja Frans Jokimies saa syyskuussa 1944 käskyn, jota ei voi noudattaa ja joka ajaa hänet ja hänen vaimonsa, Anjan, riskialttiille pakomatkalle. He päätyvät Tanskaan, josta Suomen puolustusvoimien viestikyyhkyset on alun perin saatu, Otto Stein -nimiseltä, tanskanjuutalaiselta kyyhkyskasvattajalta.<br /> <br /> Frans kantaa sydämessään raskasta salaisuutta, jonka haluaisi jakaa ja sovittaa.
